WILLIAM LENT, Hazardous Materials Program Manager - Retired

Bill Lent was the Hazardous Materials Program Manager for San Mateo County's Environmental Health Division for more than 30 years, retiring from the county in March of 2016. Bill was responsible for the Divisions Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) that includes the hazardous waste, underground tank and other specific regulatory programs. Bill has been involved in a number of enforcement cases involving hazardous waste, underground storage tanks and hazardous materials. He has received specialized training in enforcement, emergency response, hazardous waste management, Weapons of Mass Destruction etc. and has often been called as an expert witness for testimony involving environmental crimes. Bill also coordinated the County's Hazardous Materials Emergency Response program for the Joint Powers Authority for many years and was a member of the response team when it was formed in 1985 until 2016 and in that capacity Bill responded to more that 700 Hazardous Materials Emergency Response calls throughout the County. In 2011 Bill received the California Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Achievement Award and the Cal CUPA Forums Outstanding CUPA Individual Award in 05
