TH-B1   HazWaste
Location   SEQUIOA-A
Credits      REHS: 2
   Objective
Review the Tiered Permitting Program (TPP) and its applicability to specific situations to improve understanding by generators and regulators.
   Description
The TPP remains an area of confusion for generators and often for CUPAs. As a key tool to reduce offsite hazardous waste disposal, it's important that generators understand the TPP requirements and limitations. It's also important for regulators to understand when onsite processing may be subject to oversight. Initial and ongoing compliance requirements for generators operating under different tiers (ex. Permit-By-Rule) will also be reviewed.

Tiered Permitting Overview
Although the Tiered Permitting Program (TPP) has been around for over 25 years, it still remains an area of confusion for generators and often for CUPAs. As a key tool to reducing off-site hazardous waste disposal or properly pre-treating aqueous wastes prior to sewer discharge, it is important that generators fully understand the requirements and limitations of TPP. The session will review treatment options available to generators emphasizing fixed treatment units. The initial and ongoing compliance requirements for generators operating under different tiers (e.g. Permit-By-Rule) will be reviewed. This session will also discuss how generators and inspectors can evaluate processes to identify those treatment activities that may be subject to the program.
